International Mail from Canada and Tracking issue?

I am waiting for a package from Canada that was sent Xpresspost. It has a tracking number. When I track on Canada post, they state that the package has arrived in the destination country, but the USPS.com site states that Country of Origin is preparing to send. I found out later that the sender put an incorrect address on the package that being the first letter of my street was written in as "W" instead of "N" and the word Rd. was written instead of Dr. after the street name. He thinks and he told me he got a notice that the package was undeliverable, but I haven't been able to get that information from either USPS or Canada Post. He said this happens sometimes. My worry is that the item is a very special highly sentimental item and I'm mad at myself for trusting the post office and this fellow. I sent it FedEx. It arrived safe and sound and in very short order. I was willing to give extra money to have it sent back the same way. I sent it for repair and restoration. He did not listen so here I am waiting. Could it be stuck in customs? Could it be lost? Why is there no information on the track sites. I've been crying over this. It was sent from Canada on December 11, 2008 and is not anywhere at this point. Why would he say he had information about it being undeliverable if I can't get this information from the regular tracking site? Can a business get more information than a regular customer? Suz

  1. Suz..good luck. My sister sent a package in Sept. to Italy-from Canada, the package was literally lost--from the truck..flew out in transit--2 kms from my house....good luck. The Receiver has to make a claim, them the sender has to make one, but til the strike is over??? we are still waiting. Our package contained all X-mas presents for our 3 children from their auntie.... its a mess, and even though INTERNATIONAL mail will only respond for a certain amount a kilo!!!--like baggage on airplanes. I hope its not lost or???????? Italian customs can be long...up to a month for some packages..so wait a bit
  2. The person who sent it should be the one contacting the post office to find out where your package is. If you haven't paid him yet, withhold payment until the package is delivered. There might be weather-related reasons why the parcel is held up - but the fact that it was mis-directed wouldn't help. It might take several weeks to clear the dead letter office if that's what the problem was. Or it could be held up in customs - did the person who send it fill out a proper customs declaration? A business can get more information, because they are the ones who shipped it so the post office is responsible to them, not to you.
