Management Project Software

Online or networked Project Management Software?

I need to set up some project management software for a small business, but we work from different parts of the country so it'd be easier if we could all be networked into it, or if there is something online. So first, is it possible to purchase something like MS Project and have computers all networked onto the same documents? And second, is there anything online that would do that same thing?

  1. If you're looking for something hosted on a website then check out SugarCRM. It may be a little more than you want but then again it may be exactly what you're looking for. Or, you can even go towards using an Excel spreadsheet as your project tracker and use google apps.

  3. A couple of options: People typically refer to Basecamp (http://www.basecamphq.com/) as a project management tool, even though it doesn't handle planning to the extent that MS Project can. It *does* provide a collaborative & secure web portal where team members can post messages, files, and status, and it's all collected in the same spot. It also offers Milestones/To-Dos and therefore is appropriate for project management of very, very small projects - might be all you need for those. It's web-based and is pretty cheap. For more serious project management needs (for a real planning tool like MS Project- ) check out LiquidPlanner. It allows for collaborative development of project plans, task management, and dashboard reports. It's a hosted web-based tool. http://www.liquidplanner.com/ Honestly, most PMs secretly (or not so secretly) hate Microsoft Project (too big, clunky, and not agile enough) and setting up MS Project to work in web-style collaborative fashion using an Exchange server is a big pain and takes $$$. I'd recommend either of the above Agile tools well before Project.
