- Well, with respect to spreadsheets, the difference is that you can't have different levels of security. You also can't have permissions - so PM tools are permission based. In addition to that you have search which is a big addition and you also have real time milestone setting and project tracking. THE BIGGEST advantage over spreadsheets i would say is that it is more 'intuitive' so you save more time doing stuff and it requires less input on the a person's behalf. With respect to a database - a database is not interactive and intuitive and on a project management software there is a central point sharing of files which can double up as a database sharing point. I use Deskaway (http://www.deskaway.com). I find it superb - im thoroughly impressed. It's quite cheap as well, only $25 for a month for an average version and 250 bucks a year! - so it doesn't burn my pockets and it definitely ensures that i simplify teamwork and there is less guesswork among my employees.
